Wins or Schedule for competition

What is better? Scheduling up and taking your lumps to get ready for post season, or scheduling cupcakes and being confident but not challenged. The rankings are a mix of teams, some that have scheduled tough and won, some that have scheduled tough and gotten beaten up, and others that have played cupcakes. What does everyone else think is the proper way to schedule.

Sounds like you recieved pretty sound advice.

Scheduling is a critical part of a program's success.
We could do a whole story on scheduling in an upcoming issue of WVRSN Magazine.
Each sport has its challenges.

Vball is no different.

I would add that a coach or AD must also remember travel, media exposure and home matches when scheduling.

Home matches are always a obstacle in that with tri-matches and quads you will mathmatically be traveling twice as much as playing at home.
Some coaches would rather play on the road than deal with the hassels of playing a home match.

Wins or Schedule for competition

I was once told by a very successful coach to split your schedule into thirds one third you can win one third close competition and one third challenges to make you better. This has proven to be very good advice.
You need to have some wins for confidence levels and time to work on things that you can't get in practice.
