Anyone know when it will be announced? Single A was last Monday! Can't imagie they would let a little thing like Thanksgiving get in the way! (Ha! Ha!)

What does "All Kanawha Valley" have to do with "All State"? But since it was brought up, who actually voted for this list? This is an insult to the Lovejoy girl from Winfield. I saw her play a couple times this year along with all of the teams listed and there isn't one player on the First team that I would pick over her. Where is Jessica Lynch from Riverside? Where is the setter from Winfield? What a joke. This should be called the "All Charleston Team"

I UNDERSTAND THAT THE ALL KANAWHA VALLEY TEAM MIGHT HAVE LEFT OFF SOME GOOD PLAYERS. IT IS NOT THAT SERIOUS. I AM SURE THAT MSAC LEFT OFF SOME GOOD PLAYERS. DO YOU WANT ME TO NAME SOME.
Sideout....I think if you look at the name of the "person" that submitted the All Kanawha Valley team (CCHS) it will answer your question. Coach of the year...Charleston Catholic, Player of the year....Charleston Catholic....
Perhaps I should have made clear in my posting of the All-Kanawha Valley Team that it is selected by the sports writers and editors of the Charleston Daily Mail. I hope this clarifies the matter even though others can certainly comment on the validity of the paper's choices. This was not a self-selected team on my part.
I think any volleyball team that is chosen by sports writers is subject to criticism. Realistically, how many opportunities do they get to watch the girls...one good or one bad match may be what they use to make there decision.

I HAVE SEEN ATHLETES MAKE ALL-STATE,BUT NOT MAKE ALL CONFERENCE. HOW CAN YOU BE A 1ST OR 2ND TEAM ALL-STATE AND NOT MAKE IT FOR ALL CONFERENCE. HOW CAN YOU MAKE 1ST TEAM ALL CONFERENCE AND NOT MAKE HONORABLE MENTION FOR ALL-STATE. THERE ARE ALWAYS GOING TO BE SOMEBODY LEFT OFF. THE ALL KANAWHA TEAM SHOULD HAVE SOME MORE PLAYERS FROM SC AND WINFIELD. THE SENIOR FROM RIVERSIDE I THINK MADE 1ST TEAM ALL-MSAC AND NOT MAKE IT FOR ALL-KV. I MIGHT SEE A PLAYER AND THINK SHE HAS HAD A GOOD GAME AND SOMEMONE MIGHT SEE SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT. I HAVE HAD SOMEONE TELL ME THAT MY KID IS ONE OF THE BETTER PLAYERS IN THE STATE, BUT I DON'T SEE IT ALL THE TIME.

Maybe you need to read what you just wrote and think about that. From what I've seen over the years a coach will tell you that their senior, who is a decent player, is better than the junior or sophomore who has nearly doubled them in stats in all areas. That is why you see seniors make all conference teams but not all-state sometimes. Coaches want to reward their seniors and there's nothing wrong with that. That's why they have all conference teams.
How can you make first team all conference and not make honorable mention? Easy, the coach doesn't have a dozen buddies voting for all state like they do at the conference meeting and you have people voting from around the state, not just one small little area. Also, if you've looked closely the last couple years, the special and honorable mention squads don't have more than 15-16 players on them. Unlike other sports where everyone and their brother makes honorable mention, volleyball tries to make it a true honor to be named to one of those all-state spots.
You mention kids from Riverside and So. Charleston, did either coach bother to fill out an all-state ballot to support their players? You might be surprised at how few coaches actually return a ballot or if they return one, they don't include any stats instead listing the "player has a 4.0 GPA". Wow!
No team of selections will ever be perfect. The people doing the chosing do the best they can with the information they are provided.
