Player Evaluations
Sometimes I have too much time on my hands but here goes...........
Martinsburg: Robinson is probably the best all round player in the EP. Brewer is a nice addition to the team, now Robinson doesn't have to do all the scoring like last year. Pinkett has vastly improved probably due to the coaching she got from Ms Bullett, but needs to stay out of foul trouble. Wright is a really good point guard for them but she should give herself a chance to shoot now and then, another product of Ms Bullett. Hill needs to be consistent, she can get some buckets but the circumstance has to be right, she just needs read what her job is supposed to be any given game, and didn't she also play for Ms Vicky?
Musselman: Stephenson is probably the best player on their team, she can score and she plays defense well. Harms is fast and a factor, but her attitude needs an adjustment. Marsh can pull down the rebounds and score but isn't consistent as far as I can see. Stambaugh can be dangerous when her shot is on, but if its not she isn't much of a factor. Miller, when not on foul trouble is a great rebounder and she can put back some of those nicely. Henderson is a good pg for them and a good defender also. I believe she is yet another product of Ms Vicky Bullett. Jen Ashton comes and goes.
Hedgesville: Boarman can either put up the big numbers or she is shut down, she has some unselfish teamates who try to get her the ball as much as possible, she is also learning not to take the bad shots and look to pass out now, thats some major improvement on her part, has been rebounding well. Leborious has turned out to be the top scorer on the team when she gets the ball, and she is playing defense well, has some major assists and rebounds,is getting more aggressive which will only help yet one more product of Ms Vicky. Brooks who also played for Bullett has been very inconsistent so far this year. She hustles but at times goes a bit overboard, doesn't seem to know her place but is capable of making some plays and will hustle in to take the rebound right out of the centers hands and will fight for it. Mason, well I personally think she is struggling with the pg position and never gets the bench time to think about it and to rest. She is too slow getting the ball down the court, if she gets it down, I think the coach should think on this one. M.Hayes is a good ball handler and shouldnt be the first out of the game, the coach seems to take her out for the little things instead of letting her work through. She sees the court and can get it down to a shooter, probably the most underused on the team at this point, also from Ms Bulletts team. B. Hayes, usually first off the bench and way too much out of control, fouls alot and puts up too many shots.
Jefferson: Marshall,, ok what do you say about her? she is good and she takes on many roles, loves to use the wow factor to intimidate, ie hair, red contacts, not sure if it makes any difference but hey who knows!
Clinton, great player can shoot the lights out and plays the game well, smart player. Taylor can power up for rebounds when needed and should be a factor since she is also a product of Vicky Bullett. Don't know much about the rest of the kids on the team so I won't comment.
Washington: Jazmyn Hosby will only get better and when her team realizes they are needed also, they may be a factor in 2 years.
These comments weren't meant to start any arguments, just soley to get a good dicussion going with lots of speculation
#14 is Morgan Harms
You just have to know Morgan. She is a fierce comptetitor. You should see her when the soccer games get rough. She is a good kid with great parents and is a hustler and battler. Kali is a big body and along with Marsh were the reasons we were able to upset Jefferson.Marsh took 5 charges,3 from Marshall and Kali kept Marshall off the boards late in thew game. Henderson is young and has struggled shooting but she fits into our press with her speed. Look for younger kids to get more minutes as our coach FINALLY realized he has all seniors and will need som experience next year. Shambaugh has been a disappointment.I thought she would hit more 3's this year and she is pretty tall for a guard. We are back in the mix for the #2 seed in this area. For how long, who knows?
The best players in the area are
My list looks like this.
Robinson
Brewer
Marshall
Stephenson
Pinkett
Boarman
Clinton
Booher
There is mention that Pinkett who has improved tremendously played for V. Bullett as well as some of the other girls at Martinsburg,HHS ,Muss and Jefferson. Where did the top players like Robinson play? Robinson,Brewer and Marshall have standing major college offers already or have committed and Nikki could probably play at a d2 level. You can tell that all of those kids play year round or at high levels, which is what it takes. Did Vicki not have these kids ever? If she did,she did a heck of a job and is doing a great job in these other girls developement.
Henderson I know has been up and down for us. Some games she looks great, others she struggles, but we know she is young. Coach Marsh has some kids that played for the Winchester Rising Stars that will probably start next year as sophomores. He is using the young kids on the JV level now which totally depletes our freshmen team.He just moved them up and they will slowly get varsity action as he know he is senior laden this year and the extra experience this year will help.
Yea it seems that most of the
Yea it seems that most of the best players did play for Bullett over the summer. I sometimes imagine what if all of them played on the same team now that would be something to see especially if she was the coach. Now to the observations.
Martinsburg: I'd have to agree with all your observations especially that of Robinson being the best player in the area.
Musselman: Stephenson is their best player and #14 (not sure of her name) is tough on defense but attitude isn't that great but she does show determination if she messes up. Miller needs to go up strong. She does a good job of posting up but has to finish. Henderson gets the open shots and makes decent passes but has to improve the outside shooting. right now teams can let her shoot until she proves she can hit the shot.
Hedgesville: Boarman can dominate with her size if they consistently get her the ball which they don't seem to always want to do or she doesn't fight for position to get it. When she does get it she is difficult to defend. Leborious needs to stay aggressive and continue to work on putting the ball on the floor and hitting that little runner she has become good at. Brooks has been inconsistent and needs to be patient and take what the defense is giving her. I think Mason needs confidence and they need to give her the chance to drive the ball more because she is the best ball handler on the team. I think the coach has hurt the guards in that he damages their confidence by some of the idiotic decisions he makes.
Jefferson: Marshall does a good job of doing a little of everything and yes tries to use the intimidation factor of her size and attitude to get into the other teams head but thats what she is supposed to do. Use everything to your advantage. Taylor can rebound and has a nice turn around shot in the lane.
Washington: I'll agree with what was already said
