NCAC 1st Team Selections

As the regular season approaches its ending, the all conference teams will be out soon and the NCAC is loaded with great ball players... They name the Player of the Year in the conference and then 7 others added to the list, making 8 total I believe. Anyone have their predictions who will make it...?? Keep in mind there can only be 3 players from one team on the 1st team list (which is unfortunate to North Marion who could put 4 for sure and maybe 5 on the 1st team) (Kelsey Wright & Katelyn Antolok)

Player of the Year- ?

7 others- ?

NM is the total team

NM has the total team concept down and they go so deep. The fact that they play together year round also bodes well for them. It is a nice thing they have going there at NM.

Along with that,I would like to commend Martinsburg from our part of the state. Up until this little run by Martinsburg,no team from our part of the state was respected. People were on this board saying Martinsburg did not deserve their Metro Index Rank, that we play nobody in the panhandle, etc.I think Martinsburg showed well and thru 3 qtrs played right with NM. The difference was depth and Martinsburgs lack of a true point guard. There were good teams in the panhandle this year.Next year ,it looks like Martinsburg and then Musselman with our young guards, the Henderson girls and we have Shambaugh back.Coach Marsh deserved better this year,he played a tough schedule.Possibly Hedgesville will make a play as well,I believe they have a few starters back. But Martinsburg will win alot of games with what they have back and they have a few fabulous freshmen coming in with names many will recognize in Basey girl and a Bullett kid, both regarded as the top middle school kids around here. Basey is a great point guard.

If I were Martinsburg or any other team I would model myself around NM and have as many players play quality minutes as possible and when its time for big shots, then go to Brewer just like NM did with Byard. Yes,star players will carry you a long way,but imagine if Martinsburg would have had Robinson,Brewer AND some quality depth....

In any event,it gets no easier for the other temas in the state next year as NM has virtually everyone back as does Huntington. Martinsburg returns 4 starters as well. I look for those 3 teams back in Charleston next year again.

I agree

I think Martinsburg did a good job in representing our part of the state. I think with the middle school system coming along the EP will challenge the other part of the state that has had middle school and AAU ball for years. I think it will be Martinsburg then either Musselman or Hedgesville. Hedgesville will rely a lot on Leborious to score and rebound and she may have to play inside a little more with the loss of Boarman. Martinsburg will have to have players work during the off season to make up for the huge loss of Robinson both scoring and rebounding. As well as the hustle of Burkhart. They have some freshman and JV players that may help but the 4 returnees have to step up. Musselman will have to do the same with the loss of Stephenson and some of their other good players. I think most teams should model themselves after North Marion but mainly in terms of the passing and unselfishness. They were very supportive of one another, didn't get down on each other and again their fans were extremely supportive. I really loved to watch them play. Yes North may get that undefeated season they were hoping to get this season with everyone back.

Let's all keep encouraging all of the area girls to work this summer and get better. It's a shame that Ms. Bullett won't have an older girls AAU team this summer as many of the girls could use it.

First Team NCAC

North placed four girls on the first team all NCAC Team. Mariah Byard, Jessica Parsons, Tiffany Nicholson and Kelsi Wright.

Omitted from the team was Kaitlyn Antolock, who enjoyed another stellar season playing out of position and supporting her teammates in every possible way. Being close to the team I can tell you that Kaitlyn is our MVP and all the hard work she puts in is appreciated by all, thank you Ms Antolock.

I would also like to mention the girls on the North Marion Bench, in particular Courtney Swiger, Hailey Garrett and Brittany Hall. These three girls could start for any team in the state and be stars, but they are happy to come off the bench and contribute that way at North in this day and age of play or transfer. Now those are eight great players but Norths talent does not stop there, we also have four others who could start on most teams throughout this state and they are Alexis Steele, Kenzi Mullenax, Tannay Daniels, and Gabby Webber. These four girls are all sophomores and are patiently waiting for more playing time, but anyone of these girls can come into the game and contribute at a high level if needed.

Coach Mike Parrish did a great thing at the Post Game Press Conference of the AAA Finals, when ask to bring the traditional three players to the Conference he replied all or none we won as a team, and we will attend the Press Conference as a team not just the girls who had floor time during the game but all the girls. Each and every player put in the time and hard work it takes to win a Championship and no one individual is more important than the team. Coach Parrish understands what it takes to build a team and keep them close and I commend him for that.

When North Marion was at our tourny

When North Marion was at our tourny it looked like all of their players were the same. They could all dribble, pass, shoot and play defense. Not real tall, just really skilled.
