AAU Teams

SO what, if any, girls AAU teams are there from the E Panhandle? Since Vicky Bullett can't have a team, are those girls playing on anyone else's teams? Does the Martinsburg asst coach still have his team with Robison, Steveson and Brewer? Since school ball is over, it's be nice to follow all the girls on their AAU journey's.

Also, have any of the girls made college commitments yet?

AAU team rumblings

Well I do know that the Hville girls ++ have gotten interest in coaching from a former middle school coach, that some of them had at Spring Mills. She is the one who is responsible for turning a few of them into ballers. She has some extra time after her job and she is unbiased and NOT a parent, Isn't this the perfect scenario? She has the credentials, she played college basketball and the girls respect her, very important.

The trouble is the girls have to start playing and practicing and get entered into some tournaments that matter. This the THE year for some of the girls. I am afraid if some parents take hold of this, they will end up playing in little local tournaments that can't help them and will be for nothing except playing time alone. I truly hope that some adults make the right decisions on this one, it could mean the difference in just playing in high school and for some, playing in college. They need to get that exposure this summer and if they don't, there better be some major self promotion going on.

It is great for Vicky that she got that job with the Mystics, but it is a damn shame that the girls are losing her in their most important year of basketball for them personally.

I do know this, if we don't get something going soon, its going to be too late.

This would be great

I hope she does coach. And we will find out who deserves to play and who doesn't.You are right, local tournaments don't help. This is important summer for our seniors. We need to get rolling. Some of the exposure events are by invite only or you have to know someone. Some of the Martinsburg parents that played AAU with us said that at the one event Martinsburg went to last year there must have been 300 scouts.Thats where we have to go this year.Local stuff won't get us in front of scouts. Grey,Hayes,Leborious. These are talented kids that may not get to go anywhere. They have worked so hard and to not get a college chance would be hard.Obviously Martinsburg is going to these events this summer and last summer they went because the assistant used to be an AAU coach and his connections to get into these events and say what you want, but many of his kids are going to college on basketball scholarships now.I hope Vicki continues to help find colleges for ours as well. They are the rival, but if the coaching staff at Mart is helping kids and not always necessarily their own players, get into college then its good and I cannot help but respect it.Say what you want, alot of times its who you know and alot of times a college coach is going to call people like the Martinsburg assistant or Vicki because they know them. The know Vicki because of who she is and they know the Martinsburg coach because he took his teams and now Martinsburg to these big events.I just hope the x Spring Mills coach does not have bias against the kids that played at Hedgesville Middle. We already know certain parents like to get in good with coaches and make other kids look bad to get their kid on the floor. If she does coach our girls this summer,I just hope the parents stay out of it.When parents get an opinion on what happens on a team,it never ends up good. And that happens too frequently in HHS circles. When are we supposed to know when things will be getting started? The only thing that I have heard is that we may be going to EMU for team camp and the summer league. Those are the same old things,we need to go to better things this summer. Its very important for our seniors.

GO EAGLES!!!

I've only heard of AAU teams

I've only heard of AAU teams for the younger girls and the Martinsburg High School team. I heard Robinson is going to East Tennessee State or somethin like that. I'd love to know where Stevenson, Marshall, Boarman and the other seniors are going. Its not too late for the other high school teams to do the same thing.

Good

Good for Ms Robinson that she got the scholarship. She is a great player and her AAU days paid off it looks like.Stephenson is going to a smaller school I heard. Don't know about Marshall. Boarman is a better volleyball player. As far as it not being too late to have an AAU team or school travel squad, well, some schools have to have parents willing to step up and coach. It appears Martinsburg has that. They will benefit by getting those young kids the experience. Some of those young kids are going to push for playing time.We thought one of them was going to come to HHS because she played at Spring Mills, but I heard not. It's hard to get that kind of commitment from a parent or parents to run a team all summer since the high school coaches can only coach in June. For as many parents that we have in our crowd that think they are coaches or that are close to the coach, its hard to imagine why they dont step up. I'll be the first to tell you I can't coach. But the crowd always knows more than the coach ,we are guilty of it here just like everywhere else.

GO EAGLES!!!

Last I Heard

The last thing I heard from some of the Martinsburg girls that played with us on Vicki Bulletts AAU team is that Martinsburg is going to play as a team this summer and are going to use some incoming freshmen to go with what they have coming back. Some of the team parents and the AD are supposedly coaching them until the June period and after the June period. I think they are going to some big tournaments like last year when they went to that college exposure event in Maryland. Playing together is a good thing to do,as I noticed North Marion plays year round. They won state and didn't necessarily have the best players from what I heard, but the teamwork from playing together all year paid off. Too bad other coaches in our area and state are not following this model. Oh well,I guess some teams will get better and some will stay the same. Your coaching staff has to work hard as does the girls. I am not a Martinsburg fan,but I have to credit their coaches for trying to get the girls better ,especially using those younger incoming freshmen will pay off. We and others should do the same thing.
